Choosing a service

Which fire restoration service fits your situation

Start with what is most urgent. If windows are broken, a door was forced or the roof was opened, the building needs board-up and tarping before anything else. If ceilings, floors or the basement are wet from fire hoses or sprinklers, firefighting water damage and structural drying come next, because wet materials can start growing mold within a day or two.

Once the building is secure and drying, cleaning starts. Smoke damage cleanup deals with the film and staining smoke leaves through the home, and soot removal handles heavy black deposits from smoldering fires and furnace puff-backs. Your belongings can be cleaned in place or packed out through contents cleaning and pack-out.

If the house still smells after cleaning, odor removal finds and treats the remaining sources, and duct cleaning after a fire stops the heating and cooling system from blowing residue back into clean rooms.

Most fires need several of these services together. A single contractor coordinating the sequence usually gets the home back sooner than separate crews working on their own schedules.
